Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany
For songwriters who dont sing or perform it is extremely hard to make ones mark in the music business because they dont have a platform to present and promote their work. This is more or less the situation that I, Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany, have been confronted with since I started writing songs in 1978.
My idea is to complement my songwriting capabilities with the "helping hands" of excellent artists, musicians and innovative producers. In the age of the internet it has become easier to communicate and collaborate with musicians and producers all over the world. I am utilizing the internet and pursuing the idea of a conceptual studio band with a frequently changing lineup of artists. I call this project the "Rob B. Project" since I supply the melodies and/or lyrics of a song and other musicians/producers/songwriters contribute their talents and skills to make it come to life.
Story behind the song
I just finished a trip through Europe with my wife and good friends from Florida. Our journey was so inspiring ... Part of that trip was an 11-day cruise through the Mediterranean. "Miles Of Memories" is about just that portion of our trip. We met at the airport in Barcelona, stayed in Barcelona for 2 days before we started our cruise. The cruise ended in Trieste, Italy. We walked some 5-7 miles every day which was fun but also exhausting. We were a great team and had the time of our lives.
Lyrics
Miles of Memories
[Verse 1]
Touched down in Barcelona on a rainy second of May
With Kim and Brian by our side, ready to break away
Tapas for my birthday, through Gothic, narrow streets
Taxi missed the morning call but we made the ship with ease
[Verse 2]
In Palma, took a long, slow walk to light a candle's flame
For friends who'd lost someone - life never feels the same
In Cannes they dubbed me "Tour de Rob", I led the pack with pride
Best views, best pizza, gelato too - with our favorite crew beside
[Chorus]
We made miles of memories, dockin' at each port
Laughin' 'bout Rome's pigeon drop, and tastin' local sorts
From Pisa's leaning tower to Dubrovnik's ancient stones
We found a bit of magic everywhere we roamed
Came back tired but smilin', from that Mediterranean spree
With hearts full of laughter, and miles of memories
Miles of memories
[Verse 3]
Michelle and Victor knew our names by dinner number two
Each night felt like royalty - like dreamin' come true
From The Vatican to Pompeii, where old ghosts still speak
We laughed through aching legs, down every cobbled street
[Verse 4]
A carriage ride through Malta, Greek food in Corfu
And Split's cascading waterfalls that stole the scenic view
In Triest we chased the past, old photos in our hands
Retraced the steps of Brian's dad and walked those streets again
[Final chorus]
We made miles of memories, dockin' at each port
Laughin' 'bout Rome's pigeon drop, and tastin' local sorts
From Pisa's leaning tower to Dubrovnik's ancient stones
We found a bit of magic everywhere we roamed
Came back tired but smilin', from that Mediterranean spree
With hearts full of laughter, and miles of memories
Miles of memories
[Outro]
Here's to ships and sidewalk strolls, and jokes we still replay
To friends who once were neighbors, now family all the way
We came back tired but smilin', from that Mediterranean spree
With hearts full of laughter...and miles of memories
Miles of memories
Miles of memories
